As the college admissions spotlight continues to shine on the College Board's completely redesigned SAT test, many parents may forget that a new SAT means a new PSAT test for their high school students starting this October.
We all know that starting March 2016, high school students all over the country will be taking an entirely new and redesigned SAT test. That may seem rather far away (for now), but high school students in their junior year for the 2015-2016 school year will be the first class to take a similarly redesigned PSAT.
For students and families who would like a preview of the PSAT, Kaplan is offering a free, live online webinar.
Our contact at Kaplan writes:
While many students historically have gone into the PSAT cold, this year with all the changes, there is increased interest in understanding what the redesigned PSAT will look and feel like.
To help students feel prepared for the New PSAT this fall, Kaplan will be hosting free live online 90-minute previews of the New PSAT throughout the summer. During this preview, students will get:
● An overview of test format, structur
e, and scoring
● Side-by-side comparisons of how the test differs from the old PSAT and current SAT
● Stats about why the PSAT even matters
● Rigors of the new test and how to simplify longer questions
● Advice about which test they should take: current SAT v. new SAT
Sessions will be offered through the end of August.
Space is limited, to sign up for a PSAT Sneak Peek session today, please visit www.kaptest.com/psatsneakpeek
And there you have it! It's free, and there's no loss that I could think of!
So far, it looks like remaining dates are August 8, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30.

What is the PSAT?
It's a test closely aligned with the SAT that is offered by schools to students in their sophomore or junior year of high school. Unlike the SAT, which typically takes place on a weekend, the PSAT often takes place in the student's home school, during the school day. More info.
What's the point of getting a preview?
It depends. The PSAT is also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test because it is the official way in which the National Merit Schoarlship Corporation determines scholarship winners. So if you do well on this test, you can possibly win $2,500 in scholarship money.
Since the PSAT is an abbreviated version of the SAT, many students also use the PSAT as an opportunity to begin prep for the SAT, which plays an important role in college admissions.
Getting a preview of this test can give you a competitive edge to many of your classmates who may be completely surprised by the new formatting and content of the PSAT.
